Mark Wainscott

President

Mark Wainscott joined VerticalVet in August of 2023 as the Vice President of Business Development. In this role, Mark worked directly with animal health vendors to negotiate contracts and programs for VerticalVet members to provide access and discounts to market leading products, technology, and service offerings.  In January of 2025, Mark was promoted to President of VerticalVet and now leads the VerticalVet team.

Prior to joining VerticalVet, Mark led the corporate accounts team at MWI Animal Health for 13 years, managing relationships with the largest veterinary practice groups and GPOs in the country. Mark spent 18 years with Fort Dodge Animal Health and Pfizer Animal Health (Zoetis) in sales leadership, product marketing and distributor management roles. During this time, Mark worked within all species groups, including companion animal, equine and food animal. Mark began his career working for Walco Animal Health calling on cattle ranches and food animal veterinarians in Florida after graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1991.

Mark has two sons, Taylor and Drew and lives in northern Kentucky with his English Cream Retriever named Riley.

Dave McDonald, DVM

ViQ Program Director

Dave McDonald, DVM is the director of the ViQ Practice Owner PeerShare Program and a consultant with VerticalVet's Virtual Management Program. With over 30 years of experience in private practice, he has held roles ranging from Associate to Partner to Sole Owner. Over the past decade, Dave dedicated his efforts to collaborating with veterinarians and practice owners nationwide. He is passionate about enhancing and elevating independent practices to help them thrive, emphasizing the continual evaluation and enhancement of all veterinary hospital processes.

Katee Spence, MBA, CVPM

Vice President of Operations

Katee Spence joined the VerticalVet team in November of 2021 creating our Virtual Practice Manager & Consulting program! In this role she enjoyed having the opportunity to assist VV member practice owners and managers in many areas including Human Resources, Inventory Management, technology integration, Client Service, KPI tracking, budgeting, and many more topics. In January of 2025 she was promoted to the Vice President of Operations role to assist in leading the team and overseeing the day-to-day. 

Katee earned her BS in Marketing and MBA from Coastal Carolina University. She went on to earn her CVPM certification while in practice in 2019. She spent 8 years working in Veterinary management where she served as the Hospital Administrator of a 6-doctor private practice in South Carolina prior to joining the VV team. This practice role is what fueled her passion for VetMed, specifically supporting private practices in running organized, profitable practices that provide a positive culture and environment for vet med professionals. 

Katee lives near the coast in South Carolina with her husband, two daughters and their English Cream Retriever, Poppy. In her free time she enjoys traveling and spending quality time  with family and friends. 

Lindsay Moore, RVT

Director of Strategic Member Services 

Lindsay Moore, RVT, brings over a decade of diverse veterinary experience to her role as Director of Member Resources at VerticalVet. Beginning her journey in general practice and expanding her expertise through emergency care, specialty clinics, and exotic animal settings, Lindsay possesses a comprehensive understanding of the veterinary field. Since becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2017, Lindsay has demonstrated a deep appreciation for the intricacies of the profession and a commitment to supporting its practitioners. At VerticalVet, she channels her passion for animal care and advocacy into empowering veterinary professionals through the provision of valuable resources and the cultivation of a collaborative community. Beyond her contributions to the veterinary realm, Lindsay's dedication to environmental stewardship is evident in her avid pursuit of beekeeping. This commitment reflects her holistic approach to caring for both animals and their habitats. Despite her extensive experience, Lindsay humorously acknowledges her veterinary "kryptonite" – a playful nod to the challenges inherent in veterinary medicine. However, her unwavering dedication to the field and her colleagues underscores her ability to navigate and overcome obstacles. With Lindsay Moore leading Member Resources, VerticalVet reaffirms its commitment to championing independent veterinary practices, providing them with the support and tools necessary to take their practice to next level.

Danielle Cunnane

Member Resource Advisor & Events Director

Danielle Cunnane, MBA, started her career in animal welfare as an animal transport and shelter operations manager for Animal Humane Society of Minnesota. Here, she developed a knack for leadership and process refinement. In her role with Animal Humane Society, she oversaw the successful transport of more than 1,000 animals per month from overcrowded shelters in the South to Minnesota for adoption. After 5 years with Animal Humane Society, Danielle joined the Humane Society of Charlotte, North Carolina, as the shelter operations manager. She implemented many processes that contributed to the success of their animal husbandry, intake, medical, and adoption programs. After 2 years with the Humane Society of Charlotte, Danielle expanded her leadership skills and became the practice manager of a 2 DVM practice where she enjoyed working with her team to provide a high standard of care to their clients and the pets they love. After 2 years, Danielle sought to share her leadership skills and experience with more practices, leading her to join the VerticalVet team as a Member Resource Advisor. Her role with VerticalVet is to support independent veterinary practices through member advantages, as well as virtual practice management consultations, marketing support, and data analysis for member clients. By providing the best for her clients, she is part of the large scale support system for healthy pets and those that care for them.

Maelynn Mullinax, RVT

Practice Support Specialist

Maelynn has been in the veterinary field for 15 years, she started her journey working in the kennel of a local mixed animal hospital. She always knew she wanted to work with animals in some capacity and was inspired by a veteran RVT to pursue a degree in Veterinary technology. She has since been a registered veterinary technician for 10 years, working in specialty small animal practice, general practice and large animal. While working in the clinic she enjoyed caring for patients in the ICU, helping improve processes and training. She began working with VerticalVet 4 years ago and has found a new passion for veterinary medicine. She is embracing this new career path in empowering and equipping veterinary practices with all that Verticalvet has to offer. She has particularly enjoyed working alongside Katee in bringing support to Practice owners and Managers in the VPM program.

If something piques her interest she will research it until she is an expert. She and her husband have tackled many home improvement projects over the last few years, some of them going more smoothly than others. But each a great lesson nonetheless. She also enjoys gardening and baking in her free time. She currently owns 2 senior horses and a senior dog, hoping to add a younger horse to the herd soon.

Michelle Braswell

Sr. Member Resource Advisor

Michelle Braswell is a Member Resource Advisor with VerticalVet. Before joining VerticalVet, she worked for many years as a Tech Assistant in both specialty and general veterinary practices. Although she misses working directly with patients and their owners, Michelle now finds joy in supporting veterinary staff and clinic owners, helping them focus more on patient care. Outside of work, Michelle enjoys traveling, scuba diving, hiking, camping, and spending time with her two dogs, Lenny and Princess Nibbles.

Tara Marlowe

Marketing Success Manager

Tara Marlowe has always had an interest in animals. Her first choice of career was to be a marine biologist, but circumstances led her to pursue an educational path towards veterinary medicine. She started her career in veterinary medicine her first year of college where she worked in one of the university’s labs caring for rats, mice, and guinea pigs. She then learned that caring for these animals held a place in her heart that would carry her into the present.

Tara has done everything from lab animal care, diabetes research, cancer research, where some of her work is published, to kennel care, veterinary receptionists, and veterinary technician. It was however, her 10 years as a practice manager that brought her to her position at VerticalVet.

Tara has an inside perspective into the industry that allows her to guide practices when it comes to client communications. Her laid-back hands-on approach allows her to have fun yet professional interactions with practices keeping them comfortable.

Tara is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and like to say she “bleeds black and gold”. She moved to NC in 1994 and has been an honorary “southerner” since. She enjoys camping, reading, and gaming. She is a self-proclaimed “nerd” and “Trekkie” and loves all things Sci-Fi and Fantasy. She shares her home with her two cats Otter and Goose who rule the roost.

Reagan Humphries

Client Communications Manager

Reagan Humphries is the Client Communications Manager here at VerticalVet. She proudly holds a degree in Animal Science with a minor in Agricultural Business Management from North Carolina State University. Reagan's love for animals began at a young age with competitive rodeo and horseback riding, passions she still enjoys today. She is the proud owner of four horses and a lively corgi named Banjo.

Drawing from her extensive experience as a veterinary assistant, Reagan brings a wealth of knowledge and practical skills to VerticalVet. She is enthusiastic about fostering strong client relationships and delivering exceptional support to VerticalVet members.

Outside of work, Reagan loves reading, cooking, baking, and exploring the outdoors on walks.

Mindy Schmitt

Virtual Practice Manager & Consultant

With over a decade of experience in the veterinary industry, Mindy has cultivated a diverse and dynamic career that spans roles from customer service representative to regional veterinary manager. Throughout her journey, she has gained expertise in overseeing multi-unit operations, ensuring the consistent delivery of exceptional veterinary care, and fostering unparalleled customer satisfaction.

Mindy's professional skill set includes staff management, budgeting, and a deep understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs) and corporate processes. From analyzing profit and loss statements to spearheading hiring, training, and onboarding efforts, she is passionate about creating cohesive teams and achieving organizational success.

Mindy specializes in assisting veterinary practices and their managers in addressing day-to-day challenges, as well as setting and achieving strategic long-term goals. Her mission is to help practices unlock their full potential while maintaining a focus on high-quality patient care and client experiences.

Outside of work, she enjoy cheering on the Green Bay Packers (Go Pack Go!), spending quality time with her husband and daughter, and exploring new adventures with their family dog, Tucker.

Ashlee Franks

Director of Sales

Ashlee joins the Vertical Vet team with over 25 years of experience in the animal health industry. For the past 10 years Ashlee has been with MWI in multiple roles.  Most recently, she served as Technology and Solutions Strategist for the past four years. She brings deep knowledge of the veterinary technology solutions landscape, practice management and operations. She strives to create efficiency and profitability at a practice level while enabling clinics to provide an impressionable client experience.

Prior to this, she spent eight years in the field as a Distribution Sales Manager. Before transitioning to this side of the industry, Ashlee dedicated nearly 14 years to private practice as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) and Practice Manager with experience in companion animal, livestock and equine medicine, as well as emergency and critical care practices.

Ashlee holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Marketing from the University of North Alabama. She resides on her farm in northwestern Alabama with her husband and daughter, near her two grown sons and daughter-in-law. In her free time, she enjoys spending quality moments with her family on horseback, both trail riding and rodeoing. She currently has five horses, four dogs and a cat.
